The AV-8B II + is the second generation of Harriers. Using its VSTOL (Vertical and Short Take
Off Landing) abilities the Harrier is capable of using almost any surface to attack and destroy air
or ground targets. Armed with conventional or specific weapons the AV-8B II + can be used in
offensive or defensive roles. Now with air-borne radar the AV-8B II + can deliver its ordnance day
or night. The AV-8B II + can be air refueled allowing it to
be deployed for extended periods.

VMA-513 “Flying Nightmares” was first commissioned as VMF-513 in February 1944. The
squadron transitioned to the AV-8A Harrier in 1970 and was re-designated VMA-513 in 1971. In
2001 they were the only squadron in the world to simultaneously use all three variants of the AV-
8B. VMA-513 was the first Harrier unit to drop a JDAM in combat, the first to use the LITENING II
targeting pod in combat and in 2007 the first squadron to fly MAG missions from a foreign ship.

November 2010 the strakes were inadvertently forgotten. These models were
shipped before the error was brought to light so if you already purchased this
model please send an email to [email protected] telling them you
purchased this model and the parts are missing. Also send your mailing
information and the parts will be sent to you at no charge. Hobby Master
apologizes for this inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and
patience. These parts are expected to be ready for shipping in about one week.
All distributors and retailers will be receiving these parts for models that are in
stock and will include them with the models when they are placed for sale again.
