Night Vision Goggles?
Category: Safelog Pilot Logbook

Question / Issue:
I am an Army helicopter pilot and want to log my Night Vision Goggle (NVG) time. How can I do this with Safelog?

Solution:
Safelog allows for adding many types of custom columns, including NVG.

To add a column such as "Night Vision Goggles", do the following:

  • Start Safelog
  • Click on 'setup'
  • Click on the link at the top of the first setup screen. At the time of this writing, this link says "Go to Optional Fields Setup Screen" but this may change in future versions as it just has not been conspicuous enough
  • This will take you to the optional fields setup screen.
  • Scroll down to FAA Logbook Fields Setup .. Optional FAA Fields to Display .. Type of Piloting Time Fields. In the list at right you will see some standard fields that you can check on or off plus some blank fields. Type "Night Vision Goggle" in one of the boxes and check a checkbox next to this to make it active.
  • Click on "logbook" to return to the main logbook display. Voila! NVG will appear in your logbook. Note: occasionally you may need to restart Safelog after doing this, but this should be rare.
