The Mirage 2000C was designed as an Air-Superiority fighter using the basic design of the delta wings on the Mirage III and has evolved into many different versions. The aircraft was designed to handle 9 g and 270º/s roll at sub and supersonic speed while carrying four air-to-air missiles. One version is loosely called the 2000RDI because the aircraft have an advanced RDI air interception radar system. The Mirage 2000 has become the main aircraft in the French inventory as well as 8 other countries.
In 2004 Mirage 2000-5F c/n 309 tail # 72 / 2-EE was given a special paint scheme to mark the 20th anniversary of the Mirage aircraft at BA-102 (base-102) Dijon. The Stork (Cigogne) is the emblem of the EC 1/2 Escadron (Squadron) that was originally used in WWI. The aircraft belongs to Escadrille SPA.3 Cigogne de “Guynemer”. The first Mirage 2000-5 arrived at Dijon March 1999. Unfortunately in February 2006 this aircraft was written off in a mid-air collision with another Mirage 2000-5F 53/2-FA that landed safely.
Specifications for the Mirage 2000-5F This variant is different from the Mirage 2000C only in upgraded radar and avionics. The 2000-5F is also capable of carrying the over-sized drop tanks developed for the 2000N allowing for greater range. These were done to extend the life of the Mirage 2000 until the new Rafale is available.
