5-OP/74 EC (EC Escadron de chasse (fighter wing) 2/5 Ile de France, Desert Storm
"Operation Daguet", 1991

France’s participation in Desert Storm was called “Operation Daguet (French for Brocket
Deer). The French were responsible for the left flank as Coalition Forces worked their way
into Kuwait to drive the Iraqi invaders out of the country. Along with Mirage 2000Cs
France supplied transport aircraft refueling planes ground attack aircraft as well as Army
and Navy personnel and other materiel. Even after Desert Storm ended France continued
to participate in activities in the region.

One of the many aircraft France supplied for Desert Storm in 1991 was the Mirage 2000C
5-OP/74 from EC (fighter wing) 2/5 “Ile de France”. The 5-O is the visual designator for
the 2/5 “Ile de France” who only received their Mirage 2000Cs in 1989. The squadron was
based at Al Ahsa in Saudi Arabia for Desert Storm and in September 1992 they moved to
Dhahran in Saudi Arabia as part of operation “Alysse” in south-west Iraq. Later they joined
“Southern Watch” to help enforce the no-fly zone in southern Iraq.

Hobby Master HA1601 and HA1602 Mirage 2000Cs were
originally shipped with the front landing gear doors missing
for the wheels up option. Hobby Master is rectifying this
oversight by shipping the doors to the distributors who in
turn will send them to the retailers. Hobby Master was trying
to have them included with the shipment leaving the end of
September but I would guess they won't make it until the
shipment the end of October. It usually takes about 6 weeks
from the time the shipment leaves Hong Kong until the
retailers have them in stock. I will post what to do and when
to do it so you get your new doors. In the meantime please
be patient and don't contact the retailers or distributors until
you check here for the proper procedure to use. They won't
have any further details until about the same time as me.
Hobby Master would like to apologize for any inconvenience
this has caused.
