MetalWings Diecast Aircraft Reference by Dauntless Aviation

The Fw-190A-6 was designed to be used mostly for ground attacks on the Eastern Front
and was given four 20mm cannons in the wings as well as two machine guns. Along with a
new light-weight wing the Fw-190A-6 was a deadly aircraft. The Fw-190A-6 was also
designed to allow for maximum Ruestsaetze (field modifications). Over 1,000 of this variant
were sent to the Eastern Front and eventually replaced the now obsolete Ju-87 Stuka and
were used right to the end of WWII.

In late 1941 Otto “Bruno” Kittel began flying in a BF-109 and scored 15 victories on the
Eastern Front. In early 1943 he moved up to an FW-190 and his tally began to rise rapidly.
On February 19, 1943 JG 54 intercepted a large formation of IL-2s and Kittel ended the day
with his 39th victory. On August 26, 1944 while flying “Yellow 5” Kittel reached a milestone,
200 victories. On February 16, 1945 with 267 victories Kittel was shot down while pursuing
an IL-2.
