The A-10C is an updated version of the 30-year old A-10A. The cockpit has two-F-16 style 5.5 inch color displays, a moving map display and other electronic upgrades while keeping the A-10 ability to function as a CAS aircraft/tank killer. They have taken the best of the “new” and matched it with the best of the “old” and come up with one mean machine. The A-10C has already seen combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. The A-10 motto, “Go Ugly Early”.
In March 2006 A-10C 80-0252 was sent to AMARC but was returned to service with the 23rd FG/23rd FW (FT) at Moody AFB, Georgia. This aircraft deployed to Bagram AB Afghanistan with the 74th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron (EFS) “Flying Tigers” in April 2013 until October 2013 as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. When the 74th EFS was relived by the 75th EFS “Tiger Sharks” 80-0252 remained at Bagram as the replacement aircraft with the 75th EFS so it was in Afghanistan until April 2014.
