After being de-activated for a while the 45th TFS was activated again on October 1, 1973. Assigned to the 434th TFW at Grissom AFB, Indiana they flew the A-37 Dragonfly trainer for the next 8 years. In 1981 the squadron took a huge leap forward when they started to fly the A-10 Thunderbolt II. In 1987 while still at Grissom they were once again re-assigned this time to the 930th TFG that in turn became the 930th Operations Group a USAF Reserve unit. Still flying the A-10 the squadron was once more re-designated to the 45th Fighter Squadron, known as “Hoosier Hogs”. For 7 years the squadron continued to fly but 4 months after the D-Day Anniversary flight the squadron was inactivated on October 1, 1994.
